Department of Rajasthani: An Introduction

The Department of Rajasthani (SFS), Maharaja Ganga Singh University was established in Academic Session 2018-2019. It aims to promote activities related to promotion of Rajasthani Dialect, Rajasthani Culture and tradition amongst the new generation, keeping an objective to develop a feeling of respect towards the folk art and literature composed by the Rajasthani Litterateurs.

The Department of Rajasthani running under SFS scheme was established in academic session 2018-19 keeping in mind the idea of connecting the students with Rajasthani Culture, dialects, language and concerned literature. The Department offers 40 seats both in MA Previous and Final as well, with annual scheme of examination.

Talking about curriculum the Department enriches the students with Ancient and Medieval Rajasthani Literature discussing the Bhakti and cosmic literatures, flourished by local saints and sages. The students are imparted with information related to Ancient and Medieval prose to Achaldas Khinchi ri Vachnika by giving them a deep concern regarding Vachnika Literature. Medieval Love Story Literature is also taught in the curriculum. Along with these, the History of Rajasthani language, literature is taught by imparting knowledge of the Rajasthani Script, Language Science, grammatical characteristic features, Rajasthani Folk Literature, culture and Saint Literature is also included in the curriculum giving life history and teachings of folk Gods and saints.

The curriculum is designed in such a way that a student gets knowledge about Modern Rajasthani Poetry including Veer Satsai by Sooryamal Mishran and Baadli by Chandra Singh. Besides that Modern Rajasthani prose is being taught focusing upon ‘Boogcho’ (Moolchand Depawat) and contemporary Rajasthani story. Students are enriched with the knowledge ofIndian as well as Western poetry and reading, including the principles of reading, pronunciation versus and poetic defect. Under specific laureates, Mirabai and Isardas are taught, in deepest of the deepest details.

 

Special features:

  • The special feature of the curriculum is, that it offers a paper of Dissertation where a student is given an opportunity to present an analytical description of any contemporary or historical Rajasthani laureate or any topic related with their curriculum, in the form of a micro thesis, thus inculcating the basic and preliminary knowledge of research, undergoing this process.

  • Another significant features of Rajasthani Department include regular educational visits to Academies promoting Rajasthani language, educational tours, development of Rajasthani art and literature through competitions like ‘Mandana’ making and workshops which focus upon skills of writing.

  • Plantation work is also done by the Department in University campus under University social responsibility.
  •  
  • The Department organizes regular Talks and Extension Lectures on subjects related directly or indirectly, to the curriculum, with prominent personalities working in the promotion of Rajasthani culture, language and literature, are invited to deliver and share their thoughts with the students.
  •  
  • The Department of Rajasthani organized historical State and National level Rajasthani Poetry Competition where students studying in Universities other than Rajasthan also participated. The number of the participating institutes, colleges and Universities, had been very encouraging.

Thus the Departmental activities are focused to inculcate a feeling amongst the students to remain attached with their origin and roots, besides promoting Rajasthani language as well.
