Center for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development (CESD)

India is a country today with 65% of its youth in the working age group. Skill India is an initiative of the Government of India which has been launched to empower the youth of the country with skill sets which make them more employable and more productive in their work environment. Entrepreneurship development program is meant to develop entrepreneurship qualities among people. It encompasses providing all the necessary skills and knowledge required to enable them to run their own businesses.
Looking to the socio-economic needs of the state, the Maharaja Ganga Singh University has taken upon the responsibility to create a climate where entrepreneurial activity is recognized, honored, and looked upon with pride. We the aim to promote self-employment as a preferred employment rather than an alternative-employment, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development (CESD) has been set up in the year 2017 under the aegis of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner. The center is also trying to coordinate co-curricular activities and deliberations from entrepreneurs focusing at entrepreneurship and skill development.

Need of CESD

Maharaja Ganga Singh University at Bikaner in Rajasthan is centrally located in so far the geographic coverage and academic spread is concerned. University caters to roughly 365 government and private colleges in the state. This multi-faculty University has around 3.75 lakhs of students appearing for various levels of examinations. University campus apart from administrative and examination establishments’ houses, five academic departments offer mostly specialty and non-conventional programs in computers, environment, microbiology, English and history. The young University has created sufficient infrastructure and is in the process of developing further. The university being the largest in the state of Rajasthan recognizes its responsibility for socio-cultural intervention in various issues facing the society. In line with national policy of positioning self-employment as an employment generation strategy, we believe that entrepreneurship needs to be promoted as a desired value in the society. In furtherance of this objective the University aims at preparing the youth first by shaping the necessary mind set, then by developing requisite capabilities through providing an opportunity for learning by doing and finally offering a continued support for entrepreneurial activity. There is no such centre in and around Bikaner. Bikaner division itself has a number of pockets with industries like Bikaji, Urmul, Mother diary etc. City of Bikaner is surrounded by four satellite- cities Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Nagaur and Churu with a scope for a lot of entrepreneurial activity. We aim to promote self-employment as a preferred employment rather than an alternative-employment. It is with this objective the Center for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development (CESD) has been established at the MGS University campus.
